Here’s a method that ensures you can catch big fish in wild river fishing as long as there are fish in the river. You’re sure to catch them if you keep at it.
Step 1: Choose a fishing rod longer than 5.4 meters (5.4 meters as the minimum, with no upper limit). The requirement is: the shorter the rod, the stiffer it should be.
Step 2: Select a float that you can see clearly – there’s no special requirement beyond that. For lead weight, choose one over 2 grams. A heavier lead makes casting easier, and the bigger the fish you want to catch, the heavier the lead should be. You can also cast to the far edges.
Step 3: Pick a main line between No. 3 and No. 5. The bigger the fish you aim to catch, the thicker the line should be (and the lead weight should increase accordingly).
Step 4: Prepare several sub-lines starting from No. 2.5. The sub-line should always be 0.5 sizes smaller than the main line to prevent the sub-line from breaking when a fish is hooked (or the main line from breaking due to a too-thick sub-line). Use size 10 or so 伊势尼 (Ise-Ni) hooks.
Step 5: Develop a baiting plan. Throw one rice bran cake into the same spot every day. If you go fishing in the morning, throw the cake into the fixed spot at around 11 PM or midnight the previous day.
Step 6: Buy three corn cobs for each fishing trip. Pick off round, plump kernels one by one and use them as hooks. Shave the remaining corn into nest material. Pull the sinker down to the float and cast to the far edges each time. Sprinkle some crushed corn as the bait falls. Wait 10 to 20 minutes for each cast.
This method can take effect as soon as the same day, and the longer you persist, the more catches you’ll get.
